Inside Tropical Storm Isaac


The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite flew above tropical storm Isaac in the center of the Caribbean Sea on Friday August 24, 2012, at 0613 UTC (7:13 a.m. GMT).  Isaac had become better organised.

Hurricane Andrew: 20 Years On From The $26 Billion Storm


Hurricane Andrew was not the deadliest tropical cyclone to strike the U.S. mainland, but the compact, fast-moving storm remains one of the strongest and costliest on record. The Category 5 storm slammed into southern Florida two decades ago on August 24, 1992.

In late August 2012, Tropical Storm Isaac hovered over the Caribbean Sea, projected to follow a path toward the northwest. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image around 1:40 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on August 23. Isaac Winds Up In The Caribbean, Eyes Florida

There are now two active tropical cyclones in the Atlantic and NASA is generating satellite imagery to monitor their march westward. Tropical Storm Isaac is already bringing rainfall to the Lesser Antilles today, Aug. 22, Tropical Depression 10 formed in the eastern Atlantic, and another low fizzled in the western Gulf of Mexico.

Number Of Forecasted Atlantic Hurricanes Revised Upwards

In its updated tropical forecast for 2012, released today, WSI (Weather Services International) has increased the 2012 forecast to 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 intense hurricanes (category 3 or greater). 

Atlantic Ocean Kicks Into Gear With Newly Formed Storms

 
The Atlantic Ocean is kicking into high gear with low pressure areas that have a chance at becoming tropical depressions, storms and hurricanes.

WSI Raises 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast


In its updated tropical forecast for 2012, WSI (Weather Services International) has increased the 2012 forecast to 13 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 3 intense hurricanes (category 3 or greater).
