We have had snow, severe winds and thunderstorms during January and now we are set for more wintry weather for at least two days next week.
The period Monday night through Wednesday look like bringing us heavy wintry showers carried on strong northwesterly winds. The west and north of the country will see frequent heavy hail, sleet and snow showers with some accumulations likely, especially on higher ground in the north and northwest. Many of these showers will make their way all across the country to affect eastern and southern regions due to the strong northwest wind.
Temperatures will struggle to get above 2-6c, mildest in the south and southeast, on Tuesday and Wednesday. It will feel bitterly cold due to the strong winds. There also will be some night-time frosts, particularly in sheltered inland areas. It looks as if the weather will become a little more settled after midweek with winds and showers easing.
