As pointed out last night, we will see a period of very strong winds tonight and early tomorrow morning. Areas most affected will be Atlantic counties of Munster, Connaught and Ulster, with mean winds of 40-50 knots (45-57 mph/72-92 kph), with higher gusts of up to 60 knots (70 mph/120 kph).
Other areas will have lower mean speeds but some gusts will occur as stronger winds from higher up in the atmosphere become dragged down towards the surface.
